THE GIFT

fearful, paws worn A sorrowful sight So forlorn Love they said would be the cure For the suffering You had
endured So our family grew that day We brought you home With us you'd stay Slowly, gently the bond it grew Faithful,
loyal Loving, true Looking back it's so unclear How we got by Without you here Trusted companion, devoted
friend You give and give It never ends They said we were a gift to you But now we know Who rescued who

To My Foster Dog
I am the bridge Between what was and what can be. I am the pathway
to a new life. I am made of mush, Because my heart melted when I saw you, Matted
and sore, limping, depressed, Lonely, unwanted, afraid to love.
For one little time you are mine. I will feed you with my own hand
I will love you with my whole heart I will make you whole.
I am made of steel. Because when the time comes, When you are well,
and sleek, When your eyes shine, And your tail wags with joy Then comes the hard part. I will let you go--not without a tear,
But without a regret. For you are safe forever-- A new dog needs me now.

"He is my other eyes that can see above the clouds; my other ears that hear above the
winds. He is the part of me that can reach out into the sea. He has told me a thousand times over that I am his reason for
being; by the way he rests against my leg; by the way he thumps his tail at my smallest smile; by the way he shows his hurt
when I leave without taking him. (I think it makes him sick with worry when he is not along to care for me.) When I am wrong,
he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a
fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty
itself. He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me
understanding where before I was ignorant. His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection
against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever - in case I need him.
And I expect I will - as I always have. He is just my dog." - Gene Hill

"I am an Animal Rescuer"
My job is to assist God's creatures. I
was born with the drive to fulfill their needs.
I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning
or selection.
I have patted many a mangy head with a bare hand. I have hugged someone vicious and afraid. I have
fallen in love a thousand times.
And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count.
I
want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven, but I believe there are. Why would God make something so perfect and
leave it behind?
Some may think we are masters of the animals, but the animals have mastered themselves... something
people still haven't learned.
War and abuse make me hurt for the world, but a rescue gives me hope for mankind.
We
rescuers are a mostly quiet but determined army, and we are making a difference every day.
There is nothing more
necessary than warming an orphan, nothing more rewarding than saving a life, and no higher recognition than watching
them thrive.
There is no greater joy than seeing a human or non-human baby play who, only days ago, was too weak
to eat.
By the love of those who I've been privileged to rescue, I have been rescued.
I know what true unconditional
love really is, for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many, grateful for so little.
I am an Animal Rescuer. My
work is never done. My home is never quiet. My heart is always full.
